Our Story

The general public knows very little, if anything, about the role of African Americans, especially African American soldiers, in the Civil War. The work of Battery B, 2nd Regiment U.S. Colored Light Artillery reenactors addresses a need to present a more accurate, diverse, and complete portrayal of Black involvement in this crucial period of American history.  It is one of the few light artillery units during the American Civil War.

Since our founding in 2001, Battery B, 2nd Regiment U.S. Colored Light Artillery reenactors have been working to educate the public on the service and sacrifice of the United States Colored Troops and their fight for freedom. Want to take part? Contribute to our work by donating or volunteering today. Although we participate in a variety of active events and programs, we harness the skills and resources of a small volunteer staff to successfully achieve our goals.
